The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Could Fix That

As any significant honors show draws close, there’s always a clamor to include of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and delight the passions of fans who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.

Not so for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated in any category that year
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
  • Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, however the design of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
